"An entertaining mix of reporting and sharp political analysis." --Vin Weber

Updated 6/28/99 7:30 PM

MOMMY TRACK
Dan Quayle already has proposed a 30-percent across-the-board tax cut. Today at the American Enterprise Institute, he added another key item to his platform of uniting economic and social conservatives: Extending the child care tax credit to families in which one spouse stays at home to raise kids. Said Quayle: "Every mother is a working mother. The term 'working mother' is redundant. We must change this condescending attitude against mothers who may choose to temporarily set aside their career to care for their children in the home. ... Caring for your own child is a unique role that no one else can fill. As a women in Port Orchard, Wash., said to me in a letter, 'Teach your children values--or someone else will.'"

DELUXE OPTION PACKAGE
More Quayle: "In these busy times, we've sped up the tempo of everyday life to the point that millions are missing dinner with their families and leaving before breakfast. ... We find ourselves looking forward to absurd developments like microwave ovens in our cars, so we can cook while driving from work or running errands." What kind of car does he drive?

TONGUE TWISTER
Steve Forbes press release: "It's a Shell Game That Sells Short the American People." (He's talking about Social Security.) What's next? "She Sells Sea Shells By the Seashore"?

WE GIVE IT A B+
Another press release: "House GOP Freshmen To Unveil Class Project with Wisconsin Gov. Thompson." Class project? A diorama, maybe? A group report on Kosovo? A papier-mache elephant? We can't wait to see it!
