The Fine Print
The Joint Tax Committee estimates that the budget will increase revenues by $879 million over the next three years, according to an analysis published on Tuesday. Over a longer period, the budget cuts taxes - albeit microscopically.

The House is expected to pass the budget deal on Tuesday evening; the Senate appears ready to do the same in a recorded vote on Wednesday morning.

A Real Partisan Democrat
Gregory Craig, the White House lawyer managing President Clinton's impeachment strategy, has an intriguing resume. In addition to working for Sen. Ted Kennedy (D., Mass.), he defended would-be Reagan assassin John Hinckley. Although Roll Call and the Washington Post both have mentioned this fact casually in their reporting, nobody has commented on it.

On Monday, however, the Southeastern Legal Foundation called for Craig's removal: "In the 1980s, trial lawyer Greg Craig defended a man who sought to kill a President. Now, he is defending a regime bent on staying in power even if it means destroying the presidency that Ronald Reagan sought to protect and honor," stated SLF President Matthew J. Glavin.
