EDITOR'S NOTE: 2005 marks the fiftieth anniversary of National Review. In celebration, NRO will be digging into the NR archives throughout the year. This unsigned editorial paragraph appeared in "The Week" in the Nov. 3, 1956, issue of NR.

The brutal suppression of the Hungarian revolt re-emphasizes, one more tragic time, the nature of the movement with which some dream of co-existing. The only honorable reaction to the horror going on in Budapest is an immediate suspension of diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union.
